Grants and Awards

Please note that you may only apply for one grant per project per semester. We would like to ask you to carefully review the criteria for each grant program and apply for the program that best suits your project. If you are unsure which grant program to apply for, please call (865-5728), email (donuts@tulane.edu) or stop by our office in 204 Cudd Hall, and we will be happy to help you.

Grants for Research, Travel, Workshops, and Conferences

The Georges Lurcy Grant Program offers male and female Newcomb-Tulane College students the opportunity to undertake a term-time research or special projects under the direction of a faculty member. Grants in the range of $200 to $1,500 will be awarded for the purchase of research materials and resources, for travel and access to special collections or libraries, laboratory supplies, performance-related expenses, art supplies, and to defray other expenses directly incurred by project research.

The Newcomb-Tulane College Liberal Arts Research Awards provide $1000 grants to support student research and scholarship in the liberal arts.

The Newcomb-Tulane College Dean’s Grant Program allows Newcomb-Tulane College students to obtain funding for cocurricular activities and projects that are not eligible for the Lurcy, Liberal Arts, Devlin, Taylor, Putnam or Gordon grant programs.

Study Abroad Grants

The Corasaniti Study Abroad Grant provides $2500 toward the cost of a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program for a student majoring in political science, economics, political economy, or a modern foreign language. Grants are awarded on the basis of both merit and financial need.

Summer Grant Programs
The following programs may NOT be used toward the cost of summer study abroad programs that will earn college credit.

The Gordon Summer Fellowship offers a grant to one male and one female* undergraduate student for an innovative summer project designed for intellectual and personal growth. The grant is offered on a competitive basis each spring, and students awarded the grant money will use it during the following summer. Preference will be given to those students whose plans have substantial intellectual and/or academic merit, whose goals are clearly defined, and whose budgets are sound. The amount of the grant for 2009 is $3,000.
*Female students apply through the Newcomb College Institute.

The Katherine and Robert M. Devlin '64 Internship Program offers funding for male undergraduate students with summer internships with alumni or in fields related to the liberal arts.

The David Cameron Taylor Memorial Summer Travel and Enrichment Program, established by J. Edward Taylor '42, M.D., offers male undergraduates the opportunity to travel to consult scholarly materials or undertake unusual and enriching intellectual experiences.

The Oscar Lee Putnam Cultural and Intellectual Enrichment Program provides grants for university students from Louisiana with proposals for research, travel, artistic, and internship projects. Proposed projects may be related to a student's course of study or intended career or they may be designed to facilitate creativity and intellectual development through the exploration of talents or interests not specifically related to a curriculum.

Senior Honors & Awards
Each May, Newcomb-Tulane College recognizes students who, by achieving academic excellence, embody the highest goals of the institution. Prizes are awarded by the appropriate departmental and college committees and are presented at a special ceremony held commencement weekend.
